The Bishopric of Sant Feliu de Llobregat (Barcelona) has removal of a priest from his duties attached to the parish of Santa María de Castelldefels (Barcelona) charged with indecent exposure and soliciting sexual conduct for remuneration from minors old.
In a statement, the Bishopric has indicated this Friday that on Thursday there was a entry and registration at home of the religious in question, “in the framework of the preliminary proceedings underway for an alleged crime related to inappropriate behavior with minors, which occurred outside the premises and parish activities.”
Sources from the Mossos d’Esquadra have confirmed to Efe that the priest was arrested, and released on the same Thursday, for an alleged crime against sexual indemnity, specifically for exhibitionism and solicitation of sexual conduct in exchange for remuneration. The same sources have indicated that the detainee has not yet gone to courtwaiting for the police investigation to close and reach the corresponding judge.
“The Bishopric of Sant Feliu de Llobregat wishes to express its dismay and sadness at the events that have been communicated to it yesterday regarding an alleged case of inappropriate sexual behavior towards minors by JMAM, an extra-diocesan priest attached to the Parish of Santa María de Castelldefels”, indicates the institution in the note.
Upon learning of the case, the Bishopric of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, in accordance with its own protocols and in a precautionary manner, has prohibited JMAM from exercising its priestly ministry, and has reported that “it is preparing to start the corresponding internal canonical process“. At the same time, he has stressed that “he remains completely at the disposal” of the relevant authorities to collaborate with justice “in an open and frank way”.
The Bishopric has stressed its commitment to the protection and custody of children and young people: “We understand that parishes have to be spaces where the development of people can be guaranteed in an environment of full security, for which we reiterate our rejection and our condemnation to all conduct related to abuse or any other type of violence,” he concludes.
