The SRS starts paying mortgage loan interest compensations

Payments are made in accordance with the lists submitted by credit institutions to SRS by April 10. Compensations will be paid gradually until April 30.

For this year, mortgage borrowers will receive money in their account four times – in April, July, October and January.

Representatives of the SRS explain that the process is automated and people who are entitled to compensation do not have to do anything themselves, therefore the SRS especially urges to beware of fraudsters who, pretending to be the SRS or a credit institution, try to deceive personal data and financial resources.

The SRS receives all the information necessary for the payment of compensations from credit institutions that have issued mortgage loans to citizens. Therefore, SRS will not invite citizens to “click on a link”, “confirm your identity”, “Scan a QR code and use a temporary password”, “send your account number”, “name your password” and the like, fraudsters invite you to do this.

It has already been reported that on April 11, the Budget and Finance (Tax) Commission of the Saeima supported the increase of the appropriation in the budget of the Ministry of Finance (FM) by 48.44 million euros, so that the SRS could pay the costs of the mortgage borrower protection fee in the first half of the year.

Compensation of 30% for the interest payments of the first quarter must be paid by April 30 and it will be due for the mortgage loan agreement concluded until October 31, 2023, but the balance of the mortgage loan must not exceed 250,000 euros. In the event of a technical error, people should first contact their bank, and if the bank says that it has done everything on its part, then the SRS should be contacted, explained Finance Minister Jānis Reirs (JV).
