In the Czech Republic, cars under the age of three have risen in price by 25.7% year-on-year; compared to 2020, the difference is literally alarming.

A few years ago, we regularly reported that if you want to buy a new or new car for a decent price, you probably have one of the last options. Emission demands associated with electrification, inflation and the chip crisis are screwing up new car prices, which of course has a significant impact on the second-hand market. Whoever is looking for a car today will spend significantly more than in the previous two years.

The same trend is evident, for example, in Poland, where the new fleet increased by 22.2% between generations. It was the least expensive in Slovakia, but we are still talking about an increase in the average price by 13.4 percent.

The view of specific models is then even scarier. If we compare the years 2020 and 2022, some new second-hand cars have risen in price by more than half! For example, the price of the captured Volkswagen Golf increased by 57.89%, but Toyota Yaris (+ 56.47%), Peugeot 2008 (+ 52.17%), Volkswagen Passat (+ 41.19%) and Renault Clio (+39) are not much better off , 17%). While two years ago the average value of the VW Golf model was CZK 399,000, today it has climbed to CZK 630,000. Among the Škoda cars – still the most popular used in our country – the Octavia became the most expensive, specifically from CZK 489,000 to CZK 679,000.

“Producers have increased rapidly in the form of energy prices, which are reflected in prices for end customers. There are still problems with the supply of chips, which are still slowing down production, which is a shortage of cars in the primary market. As a result, it also makes used cars more expensive, and most of all new cars, which customers often use to replace new ones. ” balance sheet Luboš Vorlík, executive director of the AAA Auto and Mototechna car center network in the Czech Republic.
