According to him, there are no test systems for this strain in Ukraine and to detect it, the Ministry of Health sends samples taken from patients with suspicion of this strain to a reference laboratory in the EU.

“According to the test results, Iota has not yet been recorded on the territory of Ukraine,” Kuzin said.

He also added that Ukraine uses test systems provided by WHO to the country. They are able to identify six main typical mutations of the coronavirus – these are the strains Alpha, Eta, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Kappa.

Also, the chief medical officer noted that the Iota strain is not a new strain and a number of countries have already announced its circulation on their territory.

In the Vinnytsia region recorded the first three deaths from the strain Coronavirus Delta.
