As said on Sunday, June 28, the press attaché of the Embassy in Berlin, Dariusz Pawłoś, despite the coronavirus pandemic and the need to vote by post, this year’s turnout is much higher than that of 2015, when less than 20,000 voted. Poles living in Germany.

“Five years ago, it was also possible to vote by mail, but a fraction of the voters took advantage of this,” remarked Pawłoś.

Until Saturday, the German post office delivered returning electoral envelopes to Polish institutions with cast votes. Packages sent by courier also arrived on Sunday. About a thousand packages were received by the commission over the weekend.

“It must be said that in some cases of German post office a given time over a week was not enough to deliver and return electoral packages,” said Attache.

Pawłoś emphasized that although return envelopes were received throughout the week, the counting of votes will begin only after closing polling stations at 21.

As attache pointed out, many Poles living in Germany decided to vote in the country. The embassy reminds that if there is a second round of presidential elections, then Polish citizens who have not registered for the first round will have time only until the end of Monday to register and be able to vote by correspondence.
