Specifically, on November 22, Mr. Ade Safri Simanjuntak – police official of the capital Jakarta (Indonesia) said that there was “enough evidence to name the head of KPK as a suspect in a corruption case in the form of corruption.” blackmail”.

Simanjuntak police said Mr. Firli is suspected of blackmailing former Indonesian Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo from 2020 to 2023. Mr. Limpo was arrested last month on corruption charges.

Also according to Simanjuntak police, after the searches, Indonesian officials confiscated a number of documents about transactions between the two parties with an amount of up to 7.4 billion rupiah (477,730 USD).

This is the first time the KPK leader has been investigated for accusations corruptionwhich is the crime that this agency is responsible for managing.

To date, Mr. Firli has not been arrested. If convicted, Mr. Firli could face life in prison, Simanjuntak police added.

Mr. Firli has not commented on the above allegations. However, at a press conference on November 20, before being identified as a suspect, Mr. Firli said he had never blackmailed or received bribes from anyone.

KPK Vice Chairman – Mr. Alexander Marwata affirmed that the accusations against Mr. Firli do not affect the agency’s work.

“KPK leadership remains steadfast and committed to ensuring that KPK will continue to carry out its duties in accordance with the provisions of KPK law” – Mr. Marwata said, adding that Mr. Firli Bahuri has not been dismissed.

On November 23, when asked about Mr. Firli’s case, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said “it is necessary to respect the legal process”.

Mr. Firli was appointed KPK leader in 2019. Previously, Mr. Firli served as police chief of South Sumatra province and West Nusa Tenggara province.
