This Monday, while in Managua and Carazo thousands of people lined up in search of the vaccine, in Masaya hundreds gathered to venerate their patron saint. Although the mass for the lowering of the image of San Jerónimo – an act that marks the beginning of this festival – was held behind closed doors and with very few attendees, after the religious celebration the image of Tata Chombo was displayed on a platform placed in the atrium of the church of the same name. There, for several hours hundreds of people gathered to venerate the image of who — without being — is considered the patron saint of the Masayas. “The doctor of the poor,” “The one who cures without medicine,” were the shouts amid the hubbub.

The Mayor’s Office of Masaya was not far behind and also organized parallel celebrations with a replica of the image of Tata Chombo that —among other activities and although with fewer participants— visited the emblematic Monimbó neighborhood. In Masatepe places are disputed in long lines

In various vaccination centers in Granada and some of its municipalities, including: Nandaime, Diriomo and Diriá, as well as in Carazo, people have come the night before to ensure their vaccination. This forced the day to start hours earlier in the morning. In the early hours of the morning the day was concluded due to the lack of vaccines that were exhausted due to the high demand of the population.

It is expected that tomorrow, Wednesday, September 22, in Masaya and its municipalities the agglomerations will continue, since it is expected that the first dose of the vaccine will be applied to those over 30 years of age. The vaccination posts will be located in the Masaya hospital and four other health facilities, as well as in the health center and maternity homes in Nindirí, La Concepción, Masatepe, Niquinohomo, Nandasmo, Catarina, San Juan de Oriente and Tisma.

In Masatepe this morning hundreds of residents lined up to secure the first places for when the application of the vaccine begins. However, an order from health center officials who asked to change the orientation of the line caused a rout that generated fights between the residents and even a clash between two caponiers. After the altercation, people returned to organize the lines that continued to lengthen waiting for the start of the vaccination day scheduled for the early morning of this Wednesday, September 22.
