There are many cheap tablets. Today, you can find individual plates for under a thousand, especially older models and small 7-inchers. But the most budget-conscious ones can cause more trouble than they’re worth. A tablet has roughly the same performance requirements as a smartphone, and somewhere around the 2,000 kroner mark they start to become so weak that there are regular apps and services that they have problems running.

Cheap notebooks in the test
A tablet for between just over 2,000 and up to 5,000 kroner is, however, a fairly safe purchase, and with few exceptions the minimum level of quality is high. You get the performance of a better budget or mid-range mobile, which is good enough for both surfing, simpler social media apps and media streaming.
Stable Wi-Fi connection, although you often have to settle for Wi-Fi 5 instead of Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6e. Likewise, it is probably 4g connection if they have built-in mobile broadband, instead of 5g. They have 10-11 inch screens with full hd resolution or more, ips panels with nice colors and good viewing angles, and sometimes even hdr support. However, if you find an OLED screen in the price range, it is an extreme exception. Not even all more expensive premium-class tablets have that.
The sound can decide
You also get stereo sound, you shouldn’t accept anything else. However, it is not certain that you will get it on all joints. The best plates have speakers in all four corners, but some plates only have speakers at the bottom on one short side. This means that there is indeed a stereo possibility, but not when you are watching movies. That might be something worth checking out.
Sound quality can vary greatly, regardless of how many speakers a record has. Among cheap plates, there are as many positive and negative surprises on that point. So that’s one point I recommend you read reviews extra carefully to find out.
Another thing that sets the tiles apart is stylus support. While most top models have it, it’s not obvious that cheaper tablets can be controlled with a pen. Many have passive pen support, which you can’t get things like pressure sensitivity in. They’re still good for writing with sign language or taking notes, but not good for drawing. If you have such ambitions with your tablet, it may be wise to go up in price. Those kinds of creative apps also require more performance.
Android dominates
It is possible to get hold of older Ipads for under SEK 5,000, but the newest and most recent ones are all a little or a lot more expensive than that. So it’s Android for almost every penny in the price range. Even so, the experience from plate to plate can differ significantly. Partly it is a mixture of older and newer Android versions, partly several manufacturers have their own interfaces with different designs, layouts and functions.
You can also find the occasional Chrome OS tablet and cheap Surface Go Windows tablet in this price range. But cheap Windows tablets are something that has almost completely disappeared.
The tests are independent and have taken place on different occasions, when each plate was new. Some tiles may have fallen in price since launch and therefore become more affordable. The tests are made with the price in mind. So a really cheap budget tablet that exceeds our expectations can get a top rating while a really better semi-expensive tablet that is not good enough for its price tag is sawed off.
Don’t look blindly at just the ratings, but read the full reviews, and you’ll get a better idea of an individual tile’s qualities, or sometimes, lack thereof.
Acer Enduro Urban T3 – extra durable tablet
This plate is more protected from the elements than most, without being uncomfortably thick and heavy.
Rating 3 out of 5
Opinion
The ironing resistance is attractive and it is, despite this, a comfortable and flexible plate to use. But limited performance, pale picture and weak sound make it still not really worth it. And shouldn’t it be enough anymore?
Positive
- Iron-resistant design
- Even so, compact and flexible
- Bright screen
Negative
- Budget performance
- Pale picture and weak sound
- Half the battery life

Lenovo Tab M10 Plus gen 3: Like made for movies
Luxurious design and image and sound that beat far above its price range make Lenovo’s new tablet a real highlight.
Rating 4.5 out of 5
Opinion
With luxurious design and build quality as well as sound and image that would have suited a significantly more expensive tablet, it is easy to forget that the Lenovo Tab M10 Plus only costs a little over SEK 2,500. At least when we stream movies. In other moments, tenacious performance becomes apparent. But Lenovo bets everything on style and media quality, and if streaming movies is what you have a tablet for, it’s ridiculously affordable.
Positive
- Well built, luxurious and thin
- Surprisingly good picture and sound
- Good quality of cameras
- Support for pen
Negative
- Limiting performance
- Only approved battery life
- Pen not included

Lenovo Tab P11 Gen 2 – stylish and fast screen
With both a pen and a dockable keyboard, Lenovo’s tablet can do a lot. Although not all.
Rating 4 out of 5
Opinion
There are budget vibes in some details, and the performance could be better. Otherwise, the Tab P11 does just fine, as long as you don’t expect a super-fast iPad Air or Galaxy Tab S8 challenger. Considering that you can get both a good pen and keyboard accessories in the package for a good price, it becomes interesting.
Positive
- Approved performance
- Stylish and fast screen
- Well built
- Excellent battery life
Negative
- Flat sound
- Somewhat sluggish screen response
- Trist vibration

Nokia T20 – successful debut for the company’s first tablet
When Nokia makes tablets, they do it the same way they make phones, focusing on simplicity and value for money. It will actually be quite successful.
Rating 4 out of 5
Opinion
Of course, you have to accept certain compromises, such as cheaper screen and speakers and lower performance. But since they still maintain an approved class and everything else, especially the premium feel of the chassis and excellent battery life, is top notch, the T20 becomes a really successful budget option.
Positive
- Top build quality
- Best battery life in its class
- Good quality of webcam
- Smooth and trouble-free interface
Negative
- No further color range
- Thin sound from speakers
- Moderate performance

The Nokia T21 LTE offers a lot of tablet for the money
The Nokia T21 has its weaknesses, but the positives dominate.
Rating 3.5 out of 5
Opinion
It is a price increase from the predecessor, but also a quality increase in two important points, screen and graphics performance. With more memory, storage and built-in 4g modem. If you can stretch just over SEK 3,000 for a tablet, it is an approved purchase. If you can go up just a little more in price, however, there are significantly better ones.
Positive
- High build quality
- Clean, easy-to-use interface
- Improved screen and graphics
- Good battery life
Negative
- Weak speakers
- Still not very fast
- in the bloatware

Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 – budget tablet that does what it’s supposed to
Samsung’s latest tablet does not compete with the top models. It is instead a budget tablet with approved qualities for its price range.
Rating 3 out of 5
Opinion
Beyond a design that feels more premium than the price tag, there’s nothing particularly impressive about the Galaxy Tab A8. But apart from being stingy with storage space, there is also nothing disqualifyingly wrong with it. It is a budget tablet with budget qualities.
Positive
- Well built, stylish and comfortable
- Bright screen
- Stable, problem-free connection
- LTE model at a good price
Negative
- Cheap with ram memory and storage
- Intermittently laggy interface

Xiaomi Redmi Pad – affordable tablet with brilliant battery life
With design that oozes surprising luxury, a good screen, better sound and even better battery life, you get a lot for your money. Although not everything is perfect.
Rating 4 out of 5
Opinion
Don’t be fooled by the sleek, luxurious surface, in terms of performance and functionality, the Redmi Pad is a tablet that matches the upper budget class. Good sound, nice picture and excellent battery life make it well worth the money, as well as being perfect for movies and surfing in everyday life. More memory and storage would have been a plus, and sometimes we miss a fingerprint reader. But it’s hard to complain, considering the price.
Positive
- Good performance for the money
- Elegant design with a sense of luxury
- Sharp screen and good sound
- Long battery life
Negative

Xiaomi Pad 5: Modern and well-built tablet
When Xiaomi releases a tablet in Sweden for the first time in several years, they do so with quality, but without surprises.
Rating 4 out of 5
Opinion
It’s fast enough for most things, has good battery life, is stylish and well built, and has excellent picture and sound for media streaming. Beyond that, however, it does nothing extra. Small but potentially important functions such as mobile connection, memory card slot, fingerprint reader and GPS are missing. But if you just want a good plate on the coffee table, it hits the spot.
Positive
- Well built and elegantly designed
- Good performance
- Stylish smart screen and excellent speakers
- Good battery life
Negative
- Missing some extra features
- Keyboards are not available in Sweden
- MIUI in tablet mode can be tweaked
