THE BALL – Visas for China have been suspended (Mozambique)

Mozambique has suspended issuing visas to China, due to the spread of coronavirus cases, the Maputo executive announced this Tuesday.

“One of the preventive measures is the suspension of visas for China,” said Helena Khida, spokesman for the Council of Ministers, at a press conference.

The minister explained that given the geographical location of Mozambique “it seems to be remote” the scenario of the outbreak reaching the country, but, even so, “it is necessary to take measures”.

“These measures include limiting the exit or entry into the country of people who eventually come from China, because there is also a suspension of exits in China,” he added.

On Friday, the Ministry of Health had already announced that it was going to interview travelers from China on arrival in Mozambique, namely at the international airport in Maputo.

Helena Khida added that there are no reported cases of Mozambicans in China who have been victims of the coronavirus.

The latest balance of the Chinese authorities reports 106 deaths, all verified in China, and more than 4500 infected people, mainly in the city of Wuhan, epicenter of the 2019-nCoV virus.

In addition to mainland China, cases of infection with the new coronavirus have also been reported in Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, USA, Singapore, Vietnam, Nepal, Malaysia, France, Germany, Australia and Canada.
