Exactly 48 years ago, on April 25, 1974, they fought for the conquest of freedom in Portugal, today, April 25, 2022, they fight, in Braga and Porto, for the conquest of the National Championship number 87, and to see who succeeds Sporting.
FC Porto plays at SC Braga at 6 pm and, to become champion today, they need to score at least one more point than Sporting at Boavista’s, at 8.30 pm.
In other words, it will win the League if it wins in Braga and Sporting doesn’t win in Bessa or if it draws and the greens and whites lose.
The lions have an advantage in the direct confrontation with the dragons (1-1 in Alvalade and 2-2 in Dragão), so, winning in Bessa, they will postpone for a few more days the consummation of the title 30 by the blues and whites.
FC Porto can thus be champion at the end of matchday 31.
If he manages to do so, winning with three days to go, it will be one of the fastest achievements in recent history for the blues and whites. In this century, only in 2010/2011, 2007/2008 and 2002/2003, with André Villas-Boas, Jesualdo Ferreira and José Mourinho, respectively, in charge, did they reach the most important title in Portuguese football earlier.
