Michel Platini, former UEFA president, addressed a direct message to Vladimir Putin, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, through the Associated Press (AP) agency, calling for an end to the war.
“I ask Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom I have talked many times about football and sport, to immediately stop the attacks and bombing in Ukraine, to put an end to this aggression and to start, without delay, a real diplomatic dialogue in favor of peace. I am with all my Ukrainian friends, with all those formidable men and women I have met throughout my career, I stand by them wholeheartedly in these hours of suffering and horror. I admire your courage and your unity. They are an example for us and for the rest of the world, of the universal struggle for freedom. There are no just wars: human life is priceless», reads Platini’s note.
