Flamengo, coached by Paulo Sousa, suffered the first defeat in the Brasileirão 2022, losing in Curitiba, with Athletico Paranaense, by 0-1, with a goal scored by David Terans, from a penalty, in the 32nd minute.
The team led by Paulo Sousa came from two draws (1-1 at Atlético Goianiense and 0-0 at home to Palmeiras) and a triumph (3-1, at Estádio do Maracanã, over São Paulo) in the championship.
Even so, the Portuguese coach faced the journalists with some dose of optimism:
“We started very well, especially in the first 10 minutes. However, we didn’t create goalscoring opportunities. The game was balanced and the fair result was a draw. We had a lot of volume in the flanks, but in the offensive transitions we lost the ball on the first and second passes. The opponent grew and generated situations close to our goal. We created enough chances to equalize, but we lacked a little more aggression”, he pointed out.
Flamengo’s next game is for the Libertadores Cup, against Chile’s Universidad Católica, at the San Carlos de Apoquindo Stadium in Santiago on Thursday.
The team from Rio de Janeiro is leader of group H with six points: two games and two wins.
