Within the framework of the keenness of the Fund to Combat and Treat Addiction and Abuse, headed by Nevin Al-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity and Chairman of the Fund’s Board of Directors, to provide treatment services to addiction patients, Amr Othman, Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity – Director of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse, and Dr. Psychological and Addiction Treatment at the Ministry of Health today, Wednesday, a new section in the hotline branch «16023» for the treatment of addiction patients at Maamoura Mental Health Hospital in Alexandria Governorate. It includes 50 beds, bringing the total number of beds in Maamoura Hospital to 133 beds to provide treatment services for addiction patients »males and females.
The opening was attended by Jacqueline Azar, Deputy Governor of Alexandria and the executive and popular leaderships in the governorate. Amr Othman, Assistant Minister of Social Solidarity and Director of the Addiction Treatment and Control Fund, reviewed the role of the hotline “16023” in providing treatment services to addiction patients and the Fund’s keenness to expand the establishment The treatment centers in cooperation with the partner authorities to accommodate the large number of treatment requests, pointing out that the hotline provided medical treatment and psychological rehabilitation services at Maamoura Hospital for about 21,000 addiction patients during the year 2020, in addition to the presence of 621 cases on the waiting list.
After the new expansions and the increase in the number of beds, it is intended to provide treatment services to approximately 30,000 patients annually from Alexandria Governorate and the neighboring governorates, at the level of outpatient clinics and internal reservations, and that these services are free and are characterized by complete privacy and confidentiality for patients with psychological support for them and their families. Also, during the coming period, it is also targeted to open a new department in the hospital for treating teenagers.
Amr Othman indicated that the number of treatment centers for addiction patients and partners with the hotline increased to 26 treatment centers in 17 governorates so far, after 12 centers in 2014 were chaos in 7 governorates, and the fund has an ambitious plan to extend treatment services in all governorates to Republic level.
Amr Othman and Dr. Mann Abdel-Maqsoud visited the Addiction Treatment Department at Al-Maamoura Hospital after the new expansions, as it includes a dining hall, 2 TV viewing rooms, a group therapy room, a room for doctors “individual sessions”, 2 rooms for psychologists and social workers, and 2 nursing rooms. They also witnessed a football initiative. Quintet among those recovering from addiction as part of their support under the slogan “You are stronger than drugs.”
