Thailand Hostage Crisis Update: 10 Citizens Released by Hamas

Authority Thailand said around 20 of its residents were still being held hostage by Hamas Of Gaza Strip. This was conveyed after 10 hostages from Thailand were freed by Hamas, along with 13 hostages Israel and one hostage from the Philippines on Friday (24/11) local time.

As reported AFP and Al ArabiyaSaturday (25/11/2023), the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in its latest statement on Saturday (25/11), confirmed that 10 of its citizens had been released by Hamas during the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip on Friday (24/11) local time .

This statement corrects the statement of the Prime Minister (PM) Srettha Thavisin who previously said that 12 Thai hostages had been released by Hamas.

“Confirming that a total of 10 Thai nationals were released (not 12 as previously reported),” stressed a statement from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Officials of the Royal Thai Embassy are with the group and have notified their relatives,” the statement added.

The freed Thai hostages consisted of nine men and one woman, with photos released by Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs showing them wearing green jackets and accompanied by doctors at a medical center in Israel.

From the Gaza Strip, they were taken to Egypt first before continuing their journey to Israel, as agreed in the ceasefire agreement.

Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the 10 citizens released by Hamas would be repatriated after 48 hours at the Shamir Medical Center in Israel to undergo medical examinations. It said Thai officials were preparing to return them ‘to their families as soon as possible’.
