Night Against Gender Violence in Archena: Mayor’s Manifesto and Community Awareness

The mayor of Archena read a manifesto to raise awareness and remind the population that “Public Administrations and society in general must participate in the eradication of this social scourge since it produces collective rejection and evident social alarm.”

The Villa de Archena Theater hosted the ‘Night against Gender Violence’ where the altruistic work of the Red Cross, ACCEM, as well as the FS La Algaida team, the women’s basketball team and the OJE were recognized.

This Friday, the Villa de Archena Theater hosted the ‘Night against Gender Violence’ in an event chaired by the mayor of the municipality, Patricia Fernández. An act that came to condemn any type of violence against women, “we do not admit any type of justification and we express the greatest rejection,” said Patricia Fernández to ensure that “education and commitment of all is the vaccine against any type of violence; and of course with gender, too.

It should be noted that this event was held as the culmination of an entire week full of events framed in a program in which the five women’s associations in the municipality participated, in addition to the OJE (Spanish Youth Organization), ADIVAR (Association of People with Disabilities ) and the educational centers that created a video against gender violence to give visibility to this problem that, so far this year, has seen 52 victims murdered for this reason.

After listening to several testimonies, the mayor was in charge of saying one of them ‘visibly moved’ on behalf of a woman victim of gender violence, which is why she hoped that “in the future there will be no reason to commemorate November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”.

During the course of the night, the work of the Red Cross, ACCEM, as well as the FS La Algaida team and the women’s basketball team and the OJE were also recognized for their involvement and defense of the rights of women to that the local mayor asked that they “report, be brave and free, since silence is lethal in the abuse of women”, therefore – she continued – “do not allow anyone to break your voice” and remember “not only the “Death is violence; insults, humiliation, coercion and threats are also violence.”

Manifesto against Gender Violence

Before this event, in the morning, the mayor read a manifesto to raise awareness among the population and remind them that “getting used to gender violence is not good for society. For this reason, she assured that “the Government team of the Archena City Council We are convinced that only through shared responsibility between all citizens and public powers will we be able to definitively eradicate this terrible social scourge”, and he committed to fighting against all types of violence, “denouncing attacks, supporting victims, not remaining silent and transmitting to future generations respect for the equality of women and men”.

To conclude, the mayor of Archena stated that “gender violence cannot be considered a problem exclusive to the private sphere of women; all Public Administrations and society in general must participate in the eradication of this social scourge since it produces a collective rejection and an evident social alarm”.
