by Priya Shah – Business Editor December 2, 2025
written by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Kuala Lumpur ‌ – Perodua, ‍Malaysia’s national car manufacturer, is poised to solidify its position as the second-best-selling automotive brand in Southeast Asia (ASEAN) by the end ‍of ⁣2024, trailing only Toyota. The company anticipates reaching 359,000 units sold this year,potentially surpassing its ⁢previous record of 358,102 units set in 2023.

perodua’s ascent to the number two spot in ‌ASEAN marks a significant shift in ‍the regional automotive landscape. While traditionally focused on the Malaysian domestic market with limited exports to Indonesia, the brand-which bases its vehicles on Daihatsu models-has experienced⁢ substantial growth, climbing from third place in 2023 with ⁢330,000 units sold to its⁢ current projected ranking. This success is notably notable given its concentrated sales territory.

The company recently launched its‌ first fully electric vehicle, the ⁤QV-E, with expectations that it will further boost sales beginning in ‍late 2025. Ashes 2025: Record Demand Signals Cricket’s⁢ Enduring Appeal ⁣in a Changing Landscape

perth,⁤ Australia – November 21, 2025 – The ‌battle for the Ashes urn begins today at Optus ⁢Stadium in⁣ Perth, marking the start of a‌ highly anticipated Test series between England and Australia. More than just a cricket match, the Ashes represents a century-old rivalry⁤ that continues⁤ to captivate fans and drive meaningful commercial revenue, even as the sport navigates⁢ the rise of franchise Twenty20 leagues.

The upcoming series is especially noteworthy, with Australia aiming ⁤to⁣ retain the Ashes⁢ – held since their 2017/18 victory – and England determined ‍to secure their first series win‌ on Australian soil in 14 years. The 2023⁤ series ended⁢ in a 2-2 draw, adding further fuel ⁤to the fire for this year’s contest.

A‌ testament to Test Cricket’s resilience

In an era⁢ increasingly dominated⁣ by shorter,faster-paced cricket formats,the Ashes stands as a powerful reminder ⁣of the⁤ enduring appeal of Test cricket. Unlike many other forms of the game, the ⁣Ashes consistently generates substantial⁢ ticket sales, bolstering broadcast partnerships⁣ and ‌attracting lucrative ⁢sponsorship deals for national governing bodies.

This year’s pre-sale figures‌ are a striking illustration of this resilience. ⁤A staggering ‌311,066 tickets were‌ sold on the first day, shattering⁢ the previous record of ‍111,741 set⁣ in 2017/18. Cricket Australia (CA) CEO Todd Greenberg remarked that demand was “since Taylor Swift was here,” suggesting the series could even surpass the sales figures for the pop star’s recent Australian‍ tour,which drew 620,000 fans.

A Demanding Schedule Across Iconic Venues

The 2025 Ashes schedule is a demanding one, encompassing up to 35‌ days of cricket within a‌ 44-day period. The series will unfold across five iconic Australian venues:

* Optus⁣ Stadium, Perth (November ⁤21st) – Marking the first Ashes Test at the venue since its opening in 2018 ‍and the return of the series to Perth after a one-year absence.
* The Gabba, Brisbane (December ⁤4th)

* Adelaide Oval‌ (December 17th)

* Melbourne ⁢Cricket Ground (MCG) – Boxing ‍Day Test (December 26th)

* Sydney Cricket Ground (January 4th)

Notably, this is the first Ashes series ‌in⁢ Australia ‌not to begin at ⁢the ‌Gabba as the 1982/83 edition, adding a unique⁢ dynamic to the customary rivalry.

The intense competition and passionate fan base surrounding the Ashes ‌continue to solidify its position as a cornerstone of the cricketing world, proving that some traditions remain powerfully relevant even in a rapidly evolving sporting landscape.

Title: Toyota Chairman’s Trump Support Sparks Outrage and Trade Debate

by Priya Shah – Business Editor November 19, 2025

Toyota Chairman ‌Akio Toyoda‍ Sparks Outrage with Pro-Trump Display at Fuji Speedway Event

FUJI, JAPAN – Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda ⁣ignited a social media firestorm this weekend after appearing at ⁣a local series event at the Fuji race circuit‍ wearing a “MAGA” red cap and a T-shirt featuring images of former President Donald Trump and Vice President JD vance. The ‌display,coinciding with ⁤a parade of American cars‌ and a NASCAR demonstration drive,drew immediate and sharply divided reactions.

Critics swiftly condemned Toyoda’s political statement, with some vowing to boycott the brand. One user posted to X (formerly Twitter) under the contribution ‌of U.S. Ambassador⁢ to Japan George Glass, stating, “Fuck you, Toyota. when it’s time for a new car, I’ll never consider one.” Another X user wrote, “I wanted Akio Toyoda⁤ to sign my toyota. I don’t want it anymore, it ⁤doesn’t exist ⁣for me.”

Supporters of Trump, ‌however, largely celebrated the gesture, with some ironically questioning whether opponents would‍ abandon Toyota’s Prius model.

Toyoda addressed the event,telling Automotive News,”I’m not here to argue whether tariffs are good or bad. We’re ‌trying ‍to find a way to make tariffs a win-win. We ⁤really want our customers to be winners.” He was speaking while former Formula 1 driver Kamui Kobayashi drove a NASCAR championship car.

While Toyoda currently serves as chairman of the board, ⁤Koji Sato assumed the role of Toyota’s president in‍ 2023.

Automotive News noted the display as part ‌of a series ⁤of “silent signals” indicating Japan’s ⁣openness to American car culture and imports amid Trump’s import tariffs. Toyota, Japan’s largest exporter to the⁤ United States, successfully negotiated a reduction in import tariffs with Trump from 27.5% to‌ 15%⁤ in the summer. Following‍ this, in ⁣November, ⁤the company announced a $10 billion investment in U.S. mobility initiatives, including $912 million to expand hybrid‍ car ⁣production capacity. Toyota currently operates eleven factories in the United States, producing vehicles, engines, batteries, and other components.

The automaker ‌is also reportedly exploring options to import U.S.-manufactured vehicles to Japan, specifically the Camry, a ⁢popular model in the American market. The Georgetown factory is‌ reportedly capable of⁢ adapting to right-hand drive production within months, shoudl Toyota pursue ⁣this strategy.
