Green Bay, WI – The magic of storytelling is coming alive for children at Lincoln Elementary School thanks to a community-driven effort by NBC 26 and generous local donations. This year’s "If You Give a Child a Book" campaign, specifically designed to put brand-new books into the hands of eager young readers, is poised to make a significant impact. “Every child deserves the opportunity to fall in love with reading,” affirms NBC 26, highlighting the campaign’s core mission.
Since August, viewers across Green Bay have rallied together, contributing funds to purchase books for children in need. Multiplying these donations is a substantial $2,000 gift from TDS Telecom, which will bring an additional 300 books to the shelves at Lincoln Elementary.
“That contribution will fund the purchase of 300 more books for children in our community,” states NBC 26, emphasizing the tremendous impact of TDS Telecom’s support.
Each $6 donation translates directly into a brand-new Scholastic book for a child, ensuring accessibility to captivating stories and fostering a love of learning. As NBC 26 aptly puts it, “Together, we can help young readers discover the magic of books and inspire a lifelong love of learning.”
The Scripps Howard Fund also plays a vital role in this initiative, helping ensure every child at Lincoln Elementary receives a free book thanks to the generosity of the community.
The campaign is ongoing, and NBC 26 invites everyone to participate in this inspiring endeavor. Donating blood is a noble act that can make a difference in the lives of many people. This procedure can save the lives of patients who require surgeries, accidents, transplants or other medical conditions that require regular transfusions. Despite the increase in donors registered between 2022 and 2023, the blood supply in Peru remains insufficient to cover the constant and growing demand.
“The low number of donors is mainly due to the lack of information on this issue. However, this can be reversed by working to raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation,” said Dr. Suzanne Cortez, RIMAC deputy health risk manager.
With this objective, RIMAC clarifies some of the most common myths to promote a culture of voluntary and continuous donation:
”In Peru, the need to donate blood is constant, and the contribution of each donor is invaluable.”, concluded Dr. Suzanne Cortez, deputy risk manager at RIMAC. With a continuous, safe supply of blood, countless lives can be saved and a more caring, healthier community built.
It is worth remembering that donating blood voluntarily has benefits such as renewing the body’s blood cells and contributes to cardiovascular health, as reported by the Ministry of Health (MINSA).
