Symptom Revealed: Leg and Ankle Swelling Indicates ‘Acute’ Fatty Liver Disease

Al-Marsad Newspaper: Experts have revealed a symptom of “acute” fatty liver disease that appears on the legs and ankles.

Experts explained that one of the symptoms of cirrhosis is swelling of the legs and ankles, a condition known as oedema.

They pointed out that liver damage can put pressure on the portal vein, which carries blood from the digestive tract, gallbladder, pancreas and spleen to the liver, which leads to fluid accumulation in certain areas, and this swelling can also affect the feet and abdomen.

Signs of edema include:

Swelling or swelling of the ankles, feet, or legs.

Shiny or taut skin.

Changes in skin color, discomfort, hardening and scratches when pressing on the skin.

Experts said, if you’re experiencing unexplained edema, you should speak to a doctor, especially if it’s accompanied by other signs of fatty liver disease.
