«Swedish price»: We Norwegians save over 200,000 kroner

One of this year’s really big car news comes from Tesla and is called Model Y. This is also a car many Norwegian customers have been waiting for a long time.

Model Y has been for sale for some time already in some markets. In Norway, we have been waiting for Tesla’s new factory in Berlin to be completed and produce cars for Norwegian customers. But here there have been both delays and delays, to the great frustration of both Tesla and their customers.

Last week came the news that Tesla has turned around – and instead will pick up cars produced at their factory in China.

There are many indications that Model Y will be the new bestseller for the American electric car manufacturer. And it is not just in Norway that the interest is great.

Model Y is expected to be the new bestseller for Tesla, this also applies here at home.

In 15th place in Sweden

After many years, interest in electric cars is now beginning to pick up in many European markets. One of them is our neighboring country Sweden.

Here, sales of electric cars are now increasing sharply. In June, 8,687 new electric cars were registered in Sweden, compared with 1,697 in June 2020. So far this year, sales are up 145 percent, compared with last year.

Cars like the Volvo XC40 and Polestar 2 are naturally important here, but the Swedes have also opened their eyes to Tesla. So far this year, they are in 15th place in the registration statistics in Sweden. Model 3 sells well and it is expected that Model Y will do the same.

Norwegian customers should actually get Model Y from Tesla's upcoming factory in Germany. Instead, it will now be cars from China that start up.

Many thousands of orders

Still: This will not be a cheap pleasure for our brother people in the East. Where the launch model of Model Y in Norway starts at 534,900 kroner, the price in Sweden is 729,000 Swedish kroner. This corresponds to 738,000 Norwegian kroner.

The main reason for this is that we in Norway have neither car taxes nor VAT on electric cars. In Sweden, however, these have regular VAT. This means that electric cars, in contrast to cars with petrol and diesel engines, are more expensive in Sweden than in Norway.

Tesla does not say how many people have ordered Model Y in Norway. But there is no doubt that we are talking about many thousands of orders. Those who have already ordered, will get their cars already in August. While those who book now can expect to get a car in September.

Towbar on Model Y

There are many indications that Tesla has large volumes of cars on their way to Norway. Therefore, it is not at all impossible that Model Y drives from all competitors and becomes Norway’s best-selling car in 2021. With only half a year to do so, it is no small achievement.

The launch model is called Model Y Long Range AWD. This has an official range of 505 kilometers, of course measured by the WLTP method. It does 0-100 km / h in 5.1 seconds. As the name suggests, it has four-wheel drive. The car is delivered without a trailer hitch, but this can be ordered afterwards.

More than 6,000 charging posts

Model Y will also be available as a seven-seater.

The luggage space should be very good, with traditional luggage compartment and frunk. Medical HEPA filter is among the standard equipment.

The car also has the Enhanced Autopilot package which is available for other Tesla models in Europe.

Model Y is compatible with Tesla’s current Supercharger network, which counts more than 6,000 charging posts across Europe, and the car can charge with the new V3 Superchargers.

As with all Teslas, the Model Y improves over time with frequent wireless software updates.
