Jürgen Wettingfeld called for a “wise policy” and questioned, among other things, the continuation of the “Krefeld Promenade”: Although he was a staunch supporter of the bike route, a 1.7 kilometer section alone cost 24 million euros. Here you have to find cheaper solutions and, for example, prefer the bike connections to Mönchengladbach and Willich.

Jürgen C. Heitmann often lacks the necessary priorities in the city. One has to say goodbye to expenses that are not absolutely necessary. He criticized the fact that the city could not handle the pothole problem. The founding of the Krefeld municipal company (KBK) may not have been the last word that a return to a classic civil engineering department is possible.

OB candidate: The FDP has not yet decided
Can Krefeld still afford climate protection? From the perspective of the Greens, absolutely. Heidi Matthias emphasized the necessary implementation of the climate protection and mobility concepts, called for a waiver of surface sealing and the expansion of renewable energies. Krefeld must become a real city of bicycles – “Driving shouldn’t be so much fun anymore”. The green OB candidate Thorsten Hansen could set accents here.

Speaking of OB candidate: According to Heitmann, the FDP wants to decide in June whether it will put one up or whether it will issue a recommendation. According to Hagemes, there is unlikely to be a candidate of his own from the left. And one would probably also not make a recommendation, since one does not want to support the “cuddle course” towards the economic system. There is enough money in Krefeld – just not where it belongs.

After Beate Zielke was voted out, a “jolt by the CDU”
The council decision last Monday, in which a majority of the SPD, the Greens and the Left had prevented the re-election of city director Beate Zielke (CDU), made waves in the discussion round again. According to Wettingfeld, this is now “a jolt through the CDU”, one is looking forward to the election campaign with his own OB candidate Kerstin Jensen. The SPD must now see how it can get a majority for the budget.

Winzen did not look worried, spoke of “project-related work”. The SPD wanted to convince with topics (he called a mobility concept with neighborhood garages along the rings) and could make the voters with OB Frank Meyer a very good offer.

SPD continues to rely on a drug consumption room
In terms of content, the SPD parliamentary group leader looked at Theaterplatz. Suppression does not solve the problem of the drug and alcohol scene. In terms of regulatory policy, the city has done a lot with “Help and act”, the “social-political side is not yet where we have to go,” he admitted. There must be facilities such as the drug consumption room – and the planned new construction of a technical town hall on Theaterplatz could also be part of the solution.

Do the Greens have a concept for the city center? According to Heidi Matthias, it was not Corona that created huge competition from online shopping. “We have to make shopping a sensual experience again,” she explained. What is needed is a changed shop structure, away from cheap shops and branches of any chains. Retailers and homeowners would have to move in to establish creatives, artists and startups.
–
Jürgen Wettingfeld also emphasized for the CDU the need to preserve the big cities in the city center (C&A, Kaufhof, Primark) – and to locate P&C. His parliamentary group also wants to work to revitalize the small squares in the city and to relieve Fischeln from traffic.
–
Benedikt Winzen, Heidi Matthias and Stephan Hagemes emphasized the importance of revitalizing the Stadtbads Neusser Straße. The greenest went in her visions, which can imagine a business incubator, swimming facilities, startups, restaurants, horticulture and apartments built by Krefeld. Speaking of visions: Jürgen C. Heitmann envisioned a “green Bauhaus” in the development of residential areas.

At the end of the live stream, VHS director Inge Röhnelt spoke of an “exciting, successful experiment”. If you want, you can still watch the almost two-hour event completely on the Internet.
