This astronomy student made an incredible discovery: Michelle Kunimoto discovered 17 new exoplanets. One of them is causing a sensation.
As the University of British Columbia reports, the student found the new planets while evaluating the data from NASA’s Kepler space telescope.

A potentially habitable planet
However, one of these 17 celestial bodies eclipses the other discoveries. A potentially habitable second earth is said to be among the exoplanets. The planet is called “KIC-7340288 b” and is one and a half times the size of the earth. It is considered small enough to be considered rocky, rather than gaseous like the giant planets of our solar system.

The new planet is in the habitable zone of its star. For a planet to be considered habitable, there must be water in a permanently liquid form, which could be the case here. According to Kunimoto, however, the planet is “a thousand light years away”. However, the find is exceptional, as only 15 small, potentially habitable planets have been found in the habitable zone.
