State structures will have insurance policies

The construction of infrastructure works, livestock, agriculture and other productive sectors of the Dominican Republic may have long-term insurance policies as a strategy to ensure the investment of the State against possible catastrophes such as hurricanes or earthquakes.

This was stated on Thursday by the executive vice president of Reserve Insurance, Víctor Rojas, adding that the country’s insurance sector, as an initiative of this entity, will work together with the General Directorate of Public-Private Partnerships (DGAPP).

During a lunch with the economic press, Rojas said that the insurance sector and the Government will also study the feasibility of ensuring long-term state infrastructure works.

The head of Seguros Reservas indicated that this project arose after an evaluation that was made on the insurance of the infrastructure works of the State that when it reached its management did not reach 22%. “It is about support and a rapprochement of the insurers to the State and in the end, reducing State spending in the event of a catastrophe,” said Rojas when accompanied by the Vice President of Finance, Jennifer Garcia, among other executives.

Seguros Reservas reported that they are also working on an agreement with the General Customs Directorate (DGA) to insure motor vehicles that enter the country through different routes.

The executives of Seguros Reservas commented that the institution will also make an agreement with the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) to provide foreigners with the protection and guarantee of security in legal terms and thus maintain their organized status through an insurance policy.

With this alliance, it is expected that foreigners who enter the country, either in search of a residence or who come for tourism, will not imply a burden for the Dominican State in case of something unforeseen, in addition to the fact that the insurance would preserve in economic issues the integrity of that citizen.

“When you enter another country, you have a risk, from health to repatriation, lost documents and luggage, legal assistance (…) The idea is to adapt this program to multiple services where that foreigner can have these guarantees covered in case of a setback ”Added Rojas.
