The state human rights agency has started the procedure. Amazon employs more than 39,000 people in 23 locations. The company’s policy would require pregnant women and employees with disabilities to take unpaid leave as no adjustments are made to keep them in work.

For example, a manager would not have responded to a pregnant employee’s request not to have to lift packages of more than 11 kilograms. She was then put on unpaid leave. In two other cases, employees with disabilities could not continue to work.

Amazon has not yet responded.
