The site Macrumors previously noted that a Spotify representative wrote via Spotify’s own forum that the company has chosen to pause its plans to add Airplay 2 to its iOS app.
According to the representative, it was all due to compatibility issues regarding audio drivers. As a result, Airplay 2 was a “major project that we will not be able to complete in the foreseeable future”.
But in a new statement, as The Verge taken note of, Spotify writes that the representative’s previous statements contained incomplete information. Spotify is still working on the iOS app to get support for Airplay 2. When it will happen, however, they said nothing about.
Airplay 2 was released in May 2018 as part of iOS 11.4 and offers improvements to Airplay as well as support for multi-room sound, voice control via Siri and improved buffering.
