“So I Earned $ 40,000 With a YouTube Video” – Multimedia

Shelby Church has hundreds of thousands of followers on YouTube. She has shared her life on the video platform since she was 14 years old.

Having your own cooking show, DYI tutorials or a gaming channel: Becoming a YouTuber is a dream for many. Since even the cheapest cell phones have had passable cameras, all you need is a brilliant idea and fast internet access to use your own channel. How much money you can make with it always causes discussions.

“One question that I get asked again and again, whether by friends, acquaintances or relatives, is how much money I make,” wrote YouTuber Shelby Church in a blog entry. The American has been active on the video platform for ten years, some of her clips have been clicked several million times.

Double earnings

You understand that it is interesting for people to know that. “They are curious because they want to know if it might be worth the time,” she explains. However, the answer is not that simple. In fact, many well-known YouTubers have multiple income streams. In addition to advertising revenue, they can also generate revenue from paid promotions, merchandise, live tours or affiliate links.

When answering the above question, you only focus on advertising revenue. On YouTube there is on the one hand advertising in front of videos, overlaid banner advertising and promotional videos that divide the video with longer clips. The latter advertising can only be shown for videos of 10 minutes or longer, but would practically double the income, says the YouTuber.

$ 40,000 with a clip

Shelby Church’s video entitled “How to Pose in Photos” achieved 3.9 million views. “So I made $ 1,275. A decent amount, but actually very low for YouTube,” she says. Because most viewers were outside the United States – an important factor in determining the amount of advertising payouts.

Typically, with 3 million views, she would expect between $ 6,000 and $ 15,000 in revenue. “I even had a 2 million view video that brought in around $ 40,000,” Church says. On average, they earn between $ 2,000 and $ 5,000 per million views. YouTube receives a large part of the so-called cost-per-thousand impressions (CPM) from the earnings. “There are around 45 percent who go to YouTube,” says the American.
