NOVA.id – Everyone has the same health risks in the middle pandemic Covid-19. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) said, there are groups that have a risk of exposure Covid-19 higher.

These groups are children, pregnant women, and the elderly (the elderly), especially those with supporting or comorbid diseases. Some of the comorbids include hypertension, diabetes and heart disease.

In addition, WHO also said that smokers who have a sedentary lifestyle (less active) have a greater risk of contracting the disease.

Cardiologist Vito Anggarino Damay explained the reasons for this in the Dialogue Agenda for Government Spokespersons and Ambassadors for Adaptation of New Habits, which was held by the National Committee for Handling COVID-19 and the National Economic Recovery (KPCPEN), Monday (9/11/2020).

“People who still smoke and lack physical activity, must change their lifestyle to be healthier. So in the future, if we pay attention Covid-19 alone, regardless of other diseases, could have become pandemic the new one, “said Dr. Vito, as quoted from the page Covid.go.id.

One of the reasons behind the need to quit smoking, among others, is caused by smoking activities that are often carried out in groups. Protocol social distancing and wearing a mask is prone to forgetting.

The risk of getting the virus from the finger holding the cigarette is not impossible.

On this occasion, Dr. Vito revealed that active smokers are one of the groups that have the highest risk of disease severity when attacked Covid-19.

“In the smoke there are inflammatory cells that cause our body’s defense capacity to decrease. So that when infected with viruses and other diseases, we are more susceptible to attack,” added Dr. Vito.
