Shootings in New York City Leave Several Dead – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORKNew York City suffered a violent weekend as shootings in the Bronx and Manhattan left several people dead, authorities announced.

The first shooting occurred on Friday afternoon when in the Bronx in which four men were hit with bullets, the Police announced. The shooting occurred in the East Tremont y Hughes Avenue around 2:30 in the afternoon.

Jeremiah Smith, 24, died upon arrival at the hospital that day. While Devren Smith, 37, died on Sunday. The suspects were arrested: José Parilla, 32, was charged with murder among others, and Salvatore Rivera, 51, was also charged with murder.

Less than three hours later, another group of four men was attacked, this time in a drive-by shooting in Brooklyn. Officers responded to Coney Island, near Mermaid Avenue and 33rd Street, around 5 p.m. for reports of gunshots.

Three men were shot in the leg, while a 17-year-old was shot in the chest. All were expected to survive, police said. A maroon Dodge Caravan minivan pulled up and fired at the group, according to police.

On Saturday night, at about 10:06 p.m., another case occurred when a 42-year-old man, identified as Alfred Johnson, was shot inside a 2 West 125 Street, in Harlem. The victim was shot in the torso and neck and was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

And in Queens, police said a man was shot in the thigh inside a car in Astoria around 2:30 a.m.

No arrests have been reported in this case.

Despite the violence over the weekend, New York City is seeing fewer shootings compared to this time last year. New numbers for shootings at NYPD shows are down 27% in the first five weeks of this year.
