“Sometimes accidents happen on film sets, but nothing like that. There was a one in a trillion chance that it would happen“, lamented Alec Baldwin in a television interview granted Saturday, October 30 to the people channel TMZ. This is the first time he has spoken in front of the cameras since the tragic accident which claimed the life of the director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, accidentally killed by a shot triggered by the actor, on October 21 in Santa Fe (New Mexico).
Alec Baldwin said he was very affected by the disappearance of Halyna Hutchins. “She was my family”, he said of the victim. “We were a very, very close-knit team making a movie together and this horrible event happened, “he added. On Twitter, Alec Baldwin had already confided in his pain and his will to cooperate fully with the authorities to “determine how this drama could have happened”.

Negligence involved?
The drama occurred during a rehearsal session at the Bonanza Creek ranch, where Alec Baldwin was filming a western movie set in the 19th century. The actor was handling a revolver Colt .45 which had been presented to him as unloaded by assistant director Dave Halls when the shot went off, killing Halyna Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza in the shoulder. M. Halls acknowledged that he should have checked the weapon before the rehearsal, precaution he did not take.
The gunsmith, who spoke through the voice of her lawyers, defended herself from any negligence. She would never have been aware of the presence of “live bullets”, she assured Friday evening. His defense also stressed that the accident would never have happened “if live ammunition had not been introduced” on the set.
Filming “will not resume”
During this TV interview, the Hollywood star also indicated that the shooting of the american western Rust, of which he is one of the producers, “will not resume”. In addition, he confided to be unable to say if he will one day be able to work again on a set with weapons.
Prosecutor Mary Carmack-Altwies did not rule out possible criminal proceedings against Mr Baldwin, while recalling thatit was still too early to establish the responsibilities of each and formulate any accusations that may arise from it.
