Schools – Freiburg im Breisgau – Students from France are allowed to cross the border again – education

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – Students from Alsace are allowed to cross the border again from Monday to school in Germany. The Presidium of Freiburg announced on Thursday that the Alsatian authorities had given the green light to this plan. Schoolchildren could leave and enter the German-French border crossings, school buses are likely to cross the border.

This is important because the first schools in Baden-Württemberg are due to start operating again in May. According to this, pupils from France primarily benefit from the regulation, who attend the German-French high school (DFG) in Freiburg and have the written Abitur examination there at the end of May.

Since the start of border controls for the corona virus in March, students have been unable to travel across the border. To cross the border, they now need a pass, which commuters, for example, can also get.

Federal Interior Minister Horst Seehofer (CSU) announced on Wednesday that the controls introduced at the German border in the Corona crisis would be extended until May 15. Baden-Württemberg’s Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (CDU) supports the plan.

“We still need border controls. They effectively help slow the spread of the corona virus. And that saves lives,” said the minister in Stuttgart. Border controls are an important component in combating the pandemic. For Baden-Württemberg with borders to France and Switzerland, controls to protect health are particularly important. If the infection situation improved, they could be loosened gradually.
