Trier (dpa) – In an accident with a school bus on Wednesday morning in downtown Trier, the bus driver and several children and young people were injured.
A spokesman for the city administration said eleven students and the bus driver were taken to the two Trier clinics by ambulance. The injuries included concussions, bruises and lacerations. Initially, 14 students were reported in the hospital.
23 other bus passengers were taken to a nearby hall and given medical attention there, and psychologists were also on site. According to the spokesman, some of these children and young people suffered from bruises and abrasions. The parents picked up their children there, the city had set up an information telephone for them.
The bus had left the lane in rush hour when turning right from the Kaiser Wilhelm Bridge onto the Martinsufer for previously unknown reasons and hit a tree on a green strip in the middle of the street, according to the police. The public prosecutor’s office commissioned an expert to reconstruct the accident.
According to the fire department, around 120 rescue workers were on site. The Martinsufer was closed until midday, and there were significant traffic delays. According to the fire brigade, the Toni Chorus Hall was also cordoned off to protect parents and children from onlookers.
