Prof. Dr. Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit is a virologist and head of virus diagnostics at the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine in Hamburg. There he researches exotic viruses such as Ebola or Zika and new infectious diseases. Viruses transmitted by mosquitoes are Schmidt Chanasit’s focus. The 41-year-old holds the chair of arbovirology at the University of Hamburg.
