Atlanta, United States of America (CNN) – Russian President Vladimir Putin said, Thursday, that he has known Wagner’s boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin, for a “very long time,” describing him as a “talented man, a talented businessman.”
Putin said during a meeting with the President of the Donetsk Autonomous Republic, Denis Pushilin, in the Kremlin: “I have known Prigozhin for a very long time, since the early nineties, he was a man with a difficult fate and made serious mistakes in life, and achieved the desired results for him And as for the collective cause and what I asked of him, as happened in recent months.”
And Putin added about Prigozhin: “He was a talented man, a talented businessman, who worked not only in our country, but also abroad, in Africa in particular. He was involved in matters related to oil, gas, precious metals and stones there. He was only here yesterday, according to him. As far as I know, he came back from Africa recently and met some officials here.”
“But what is absolutely certain, the head of the investigative committee told me this morning, they have already launched a preliminary investigation into this incident. It will be fully conducted until it is completed,” the Russian president said.
Putin continued: “There is no doubt here, let’s see what the investigators will say in the near future, and now technical and genetic examinations are being carried out. This will take some time.”
On Thursday, Putin sent his condolences to the “Wagner employees” who were on board the plane that crashed on Wednesday.
“First of all, I want to express my sincere condolences to the families of all the victims, this is always a tragedy. In fact, if they were there, well… Preliminary information indicates that Wagner Group employees were also on board,” Putin said.
And the Russian president added, “I would like to note that these people made a significant contribution to our common cause in the fight against the neo-Nazi regime.”
