The current match took place in Moscow earlier this week.
39-year-old Shirokov is said to have been caught on video while hitting the referee in the face, which sent the match leader to the ground. Then the football profile should have kicked the referee in the head.
The episode occurred after Shirokov was given a red card.
Referee Nikita Danchenkov says in a video statement that he had to stay in hospital for several hours after the match. He also had visible injuries, including in the form of a blue eye.
Shirokov apologizes for his own behavior on his Instagram account.
– I would like to express my deepest apologies to Nikita for my inappropriate action, he says according to the news agency DPA.
According to Russian media, the police are investigating the episode, as a result of the judge’s family having submitted a report.
Shirokov’s football career included a longer stay at the big club Zenit St. Petersburg. In 2008, he helped the club win the then UEFA Cup.
He has 57 caps for Russia.
