MADRID, 31 (EUROPA PRESS)

The Alexei Navalni Anti-Corruption Foundation has requested this Saturday the President of the United States, Joe Biden, to impose sanctions on a list of 35 people, among them, at least eight senior officials close to the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, through a letter to which CNN has had access.

The document is signed by the director of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, Vladimir Ashurkov, who has assured that he has asked the United States to also pressure Putin for the activist’s release.

On the list are “oligarchs to whom Putin has bestowed wealth and power”, “human rights violators” and “individuals involved in the persecution of Navalni.”

CNN highlights that the list also includes the owner of the English Premier League football club, Chelsea, Roman Abramovich, for being a “facilitator” and a “beneficiary” of the Kremlin system. A spokesperson for Abramovich has told CNN that “these accusations are unfounded.”

Another name on the list is Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko for “covering up” the Navalni poisoning and “hampering efforts” to evacuate the Russian opposition leader to Germany for medical treatment.

Ashurkov has claimed to have carried out this list together with Navalni before he arrived in Russia on January 17 from Germany after having recovered from a poisoning with the nerve agent Novichok.

Additionally, Ashurkov has announced that the Foundation plans to send the same request to the European Union and the UK Government.

For its part, the United States State Department last week asked Russia to release the activist and the detained protesters who demanded the release of the opponent in a day that resulted in more than 3,400 arrested and some 40 police officers injured.

This Sunday new demonstrations are planned in more than 100 Russian cities and a large part of the International Community has expressed its outrage at the arrest of the opponent and supporters.
