British agents searched an area of more than 144 square kilometers for the missing child with dogs, drones and thermal cameras, reports the BBC. They found the body near where the couple was arrested last Monday. Their detention has been extended. They are charged with manslaughter by gross negligence.
Autopsy
“This is a result that myself and many officers who have taken part in this search had hoped would not happen,” Superintendent Lewis Basford said in a press conference. An autopsy is being performed to find out exactly what happened to the baby.
The presumed parents of the deceased baby left their home in South London in September. Since then there has been no trace of them. Martens pregnancy was already visible at that time. At the beginning of January, the burning car of the two was found and they were seen on cameras several times without a baby. The police suspected that they had a large amount of money and items to survive in nature with them.
Golden tip
At the end of January, a reward of 10,000 British pounds was made available for the golden tip leading to their whereabouts. On Monday morning, someone said they saw the man and woman in Brighton. After the couple was arrested, the massive search for the baby started.
