Forget the “11” from “Stranger Things“, i “Damsel” is Millie Bobby Brown even tougher and takes even less crap! This movie takes the whole “princess in distress” cliché and throws it right into the mouth of a fire-breathing dragon (literally).
Brown plays Princess Elodie, who is set to marry Prince Henry, a charming guy with a smile that could make milk curdle. Except that Elodie would rather, you know, not be given away as a prize-winning cow. Meeeennn someone has to keep the kingdom in a good mood, right?
So Elodie is whisked away to a fancy castle that looks like it was decorated by someone who really loves spray-painting glitter on medieval IKEA furniture. This is where it all starts to get interesting (and hysterical). Because it turns out marrying a princess is just the first step in a very strange plan involving a grumpy dragon with a surprising taste for fiery poultry.
The plot? Let’s just say it has more holes than a strainer used by a family with children. But who cares? We are here to see Millie Bobby Brown talk your way through a monster-filled adventure with more one-liners than a Shakespearean insult-filled festival.
The special effects are, well, let’s just say the dragon looks like it’s escaped from an enthusiastic game of charades. But okay, it breathes fire, and that’s the only thing that really matters, right?
This movie is like a cheese hook: light, fluffy, and leaves you wanting more (or maybe a glass of water). It won’t win any Oscars, but it’s perfect for a night when you need a laugh and want to watch Millie Bobby Brown take on a fire-breathing lizard with the fury of a hungry teenager.
So, will you see “Damsel“?
If you want a thought-provoking masterpiece, this is not the movie. But if you want to see “11” unleash her inner warrior princess while dodging poorly animated fireballs in a medieval “Die Hard,” then grab some popcorn, sit back, and prepare to be mildly entertained.
