Relieved, the Hubble Telescope Finally Sends Its First Image

Jakarta

Space telescope Hubble belong NASA finally sent its first image since it was damaged due to technical problems on the computer last June 13th. This development is certainly a relief, especially for the world of knowledge outer space.

The first images that Hubble sent show the appearance of a galaxy with what are known as extended spiral arms. NASA said this image is the first high-quality image of a pair of colliding galaxies.

Quoted from Fox News, the photos were taken by a program spearheaded by Julianne Dalcanton of Washington University. Other potential targets for the program include globular star clusters and aurorae around Jupiter.

To be known, scientific observations use Hubble telescope restarted on July 17, after the telescope’s main computer briefly failed to receive a signal from the payload computer, and then put Hubble’s science instruments into safe mode. The Hubble instrument itself and other telescopes remain healthy.

Payload computers are 1980s systems that can use one of four memory modules, each containing 64 kilobytes of complementary metal oxide semiconductor memory. A backup computer is also available.

The Hubble Telescope has been orbiting about 340 miles above Earth for more than 30 years. The telescope was built in the 1980s and NASA said that Hubble alumni scientists are working hand in hand in the recovery effort.

This is not the first technical glitch Hubble launched 31 years ago. In March, Hubble experienced problems related to software updates. Earlier in October 2018, a faulty gyro component took the telescope offline for three weeks.

NASA mentions, during the breakdown, the telescope in general, worked well and remained useful to astronomers. Institutions that handle scientific operations Hubble and the James Webb Space Telescope, making plans to extend Hubble’s operations.
