The Ministry of Health has already administered in the province 376,656 doses of the flu vaccine and 283,847 against covid 19. This has been announced by the autonomous department who indicates that in the Community there have been 1,015,727 doses in the first case since the vaccination campaign began on October 16; and 756,369 doses in the second in addition to 25,000 doses against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
The general director of Public Health, Ruth Usó, has insisted andn the importance of vaccination against flu and Covid 19 in the face of lower temperatures. As he explained “we are facing a situation of rise of the annual epidemic wave of acute respiratory viruses since the month of October, although the peak of the wave has not been reached, so it is important to get vaccinated to prevent infections.”
The vaccine “is the best way to protect ourselves against these viruses and avoid possible complications. Furthermore, we must protect the people around us, especially in cases of vulnerable people or people with chronic pathologies,” adds Usó.
Although more than one million doses of the flu vaccine have currently been administered in the Valencian Community, “we must continue to get vaccinated. Also for epidemiological reasons, that is, to control the trend of this current epidemic curve and to prevent a possible second curvewhich usually appears in the month of February.” Since last December 4, vaccination has been open to the entire population, so everyone can make an appointment at the corresponding health center to get vaccinated.
Regarding flu vaccination by province, of the total doses administered, 376,656 correspond to the province of Alicante, 115,008 doses are from the province of Castellón and 524,063 from Valencia. Likewise, regarding the vaccine against Covid 19, by province, 283,847 doses have been administered in the province of Alicante, 84,705 doses in Castellón and 387,817 in Valencia. This vaccine, supplied by the Ministry of Health, has been financed by the EU, through the REACT-EU instrument of the Next Generation EU Recovery Fund.
Finally, the vaccine in minors against respiratory syncytial virus more than 25,000 doses have been administered in the Valencian Community. This vaccine is administered in health centers and hospital maternity wards, and coverage has currently exceeded 90%.
Flu coverage by risk groups
Regarding coverage by risk groups, in people vaccinated in social health centers, the coverage achieved with the flu vaccine is 89.04%. On the other hand, in the group of people over 60 years of age, The coverage achieved against influenza so far is 51.61% in people over 60 years of age, and in those over 70 years of age it increases to 67%. Likewise, with respect to health and social health personnel, flu vaccination coverage is almost 70%.
Besides, During this year, children between 6 and 59 months have been included as a recommended group in the flu vaccination campaign. In this way, to date, 20,639 boys and girls between 6 and 23 months have been vaccinated against influenza, reaching a coverage of 39.67%, and 34,146 children between 24 and 59 months have been vaccinated with a coverage of 29.6%. .
Finally, the general director stated that “Children are important transmitters of the flu and it is important to protect them so that they in turn protect their families, parents, siblings and grandparents during these days of family gatherings.“In addition, “vaccination allows the control of flu infections, especially severe cases,” he noted.
