Recent Spate of Car Fires in Montpellier and Surrounding Areas

Law of series at Montpellier and around for the past few days, with several parked cars that have burned down, with no connection between these fires.

In Montpellier, a Twingo which was parked in the Pompignane district, avenue Alphonse Juin, in front of the football stadium, caught fire in the middle of the night, for an undetermined reason. Despite the intervention of firefighters from the Sdis 34, the vehicle is completely burnt out. The cause of this fire is suspected, the police nationale investigation.

During the night of Monday to Tuesday, around midnight, two cars were charred on the Place des Anciens-Combattants, in the heart of the village of Montferrier-sur-Lez. When firefighters arrived, the flames were spreading to a third automobile. THE gendarmes investigate to determine the cause of the accident.

Four cars in Castelnau-le-Lez

HAS Castelnau-le-Lez, four vehicles parked in a corner of the car park of a company located in the Bellegarde economic zone, Chemin de Borie, not far from avenue Georges Frêche, were engulfed in flames, as well as brush and shrubs. Firefighters intervened to contain the vegetation ignited by the carcasses of burning vehicles.

On Wednesday, 32 second-hand vehicles parked in the open-air car park of a Villeneuve-les-Beziersburned, threatening 200 other vehicles.

Pézenas: traffic light along the A75

This Thursday afternoon, the firefighters of Sdis 34 were called to the town of Pezenas, to extinguish a vegetation fire, on the edge of the A75 motorway. Large resources have been committed with a massive attack which has borne fruit since the beginning of the summer: two forest fire intervention groups -GIFF-, i.e. eight tank trucks, the water bomber helicopter and two of the three Thrush 710P, planes rented by the Department of Hérault, which drop retardant product on incipient fires. The burned area is limited to 3,500m2 of low scrubland.
