DARMSTADT – Markus Dörr and Luca Kovacevic have qualified for the final of the Germany Cup for U23 cyclists in their own hall despite fluctuating performances. “Both of them let the training slip a bit in the last few weeks and they saw some of the result today,” said coach Peter Dörr, summing up a tournament that started and ended with 6-1 victories against RVM Bilshausen and RC Oberesslingen. In a technically demanding and fair game against the long-standing national squad athletes from Gärtringen, the VCD duo led 2:1 until shortly before the end, before the later tournament winners managed to equalize, which was not undeserved.
“The two then had to find out against Langenwolschendorf what can happen if you shift down a gear,” said the coach, annoyed about a game that ultimately cost the tournament victory. After a 2:0 half-time lead, the young VCD-Radballer wanted to manage the lead, but conceded the equalizer and shortly before the end, with a free kick two meters in front of the opposing goal, not only gave away the win, but also had to give up the 2nd goal after an inaccurate pass :3 accept.
“We now have four weeks until the final and we will tighten the reins again in training,” announced Peter Dörr. After all, on July 2nd, the local cycling hall will again be the scene of the final tournament for the German Cup.
