PSNI Seizes over £600,000 Worth of Fake Apple Products in Belfast and Portadown Raids

Jakarta

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) seized more than 20,000 products Apple fake, incl iPhone, AirPods, and an iPhone case, whose value is estimated at around £600,000 or around Rp. 12 billion.

Tens of thousands of fake Apple products were discovered after the PSNI carried out raids in Belfast and Portadown, Northern Ireland on Thursday (28/3). Police also confiscated an undisclosed amount of cash.

“Collectively, these products represent an estimated loss of £600,000 for Apple and other well-known brands,” said DS Mason from the PSNI, as quoted by BBC News, Saturday (30/3/2024).

Mason did not reveal how many of the counterfeit goods confiscated were Apple KW products. However, from the photos shared by the PSNI, it can be seen that the majority of the items confiscated were products Apple fake

The PSNI said the products seized included fake iPhones and AirPods, iPhone cases, as well as smartwatches, mobile phones and chargers of undisclosed brands. Vapes and other electronic products were also confiscated in this raid.

A 24-year-old man was detained following a raid in Portadown on suspicion of immigration offences, and not on suspicion of counterfeiting.

Mason warns consumers that criminals will try to imitate any product. He said consumers may buy fake goods unknowingly, while others may not be aware of the hidden effects.

The PSNI warns that counterfeit goods are often used to fund crime groups and pose risks to the health and safety of users. Counterfeit goods are also usually produced in factories that exploit their employees with unhealthy work environments and low pay.

Mason said the raids in Belfast and Portadown followed raids in the East Midland region, England. Separately, a service center in the area was fined £118,000 in 2021 for selling chargers Apple fake
