Police sergeant dies when confronting other agents in Cojutepeque | News from El Salvador

Roberto Cruz, who died, was stationed in the Weapons and Explosives Division.

Police Sergeant Roberto Cruz, known as Crucito, died late during a shooting at the entrance to Cojutepeque, municipality of the department of Cuscatlan.

According to preliminary information, Roberto Cruz was driving drunk and attacked a 911 emergency system patrol, then tried to escape and suffered an accident; later he was intervened by members of the Operational Tactical Section (STO), at that moment the shooting began where he died.

Police Inspector Arrested for Drunk Driving

Some policemen commented that during the previous hours Roberto Cruz stayed in the Zona Cero bar, in the Santa Lucía neighborhood, always in that city.

Sergeant Roberto Cruz was stationed in the Weapons and Explosives Division of the Police in San Vicente.

A fragmentary grenade was found at the scene of the shooting.

Inspector arrested while intoxicated

During the first days of May, it was known about the arrest of a Police inspector who was driving in an apparent state of drunkenness, after having caused a traffic accident with a police vehicle, the Corporation reported.

The police report detailed that the inspector, Nelson Antonio Romero Ramos, was arrested on Seventh East Street and First South Avenue of Quezaltepeque, La Libertad; after having caused the road accident.

The Police reported that Inspector Romero Ramos would be charged before the courts for irresponsible possession of a firearm and for dangerous driving in an apparent state of drunkenness.
