Police chase through the center of Heerlen ends with…

Heerlen –

In Heerlen, the police gave chase in the night from Wednesday to Thursday after a car that would be checked by the Marechaussee drove away ‘at high speed’. The car crashed into a tree six kilometers from where the chase started. A police car ended up in a ravine.

The Marechaussee wanted to check the car near the Akerstraat in Heerlen. After the car speeded away to evade control, the police gave chase, which led through the center of Heerlen. The chase ended at the Fossilenerf.

The driver of the car that fled turned off the lights, “presumably to escape in the dark,” police said. The driver then hit a tree, rolled several times and ended up upside down. Both occupants were injured. They were taken to hospital by ambulance.

A police car crashed into a lamppost and then came to a stop in a four meter deep embankment. The officers suffered minor injuries.

Police are investigating the spot where the chase ended.
