Pedophilia: a Sherbrooke resident wonders when he will have finished paying his debt to society

SHERBROOKE | Sylvain L’Espérance, convicted of pedophilia, says he is hunted down and harassed. He fears for his safety since posters with his photo and address appeared in the neighborhood.

The man was sentenced to 15 and 18 months in jail for sex crimes, including a child pornography case involving hundreds of images of young children being assaulted by adults.

Released from prison for 13 months, he says he is harassed, even if he says he assiduously follows the prescribed treatments for his deviance and strictly respects the conditions of his probation.

“I did all my time. I’m doing my number one probation. I am all that is to be respected. I do not leave our home. I don’t go near the parks as it says in my probation, ”he told the TVA Nouvelles camera.

It would have been even worse in recent months when people post in his neighborhood, copies of the newspaper article on his conviction and his photo.

On social networks like “Spotted”, people even go so far as to share their address and place of residence.

The 31-year-old man particularly regrets that vehicles stop in front of his home.

Thursday, he would have even received the visit of individuals who would have threatened to do him a bad deal.

“They threaten me on my field, to break my legs … It does not look good. I can’t even leave our house anymore. […] There is a tank, he parked here, and they threatened me. They said they were going to kill me, stab me, throw me in the river. ”

Sylvain L’Espérance and his spouse have lodged a complaint with the police, who can hardly act without concrete proof.

His only option would be to move, which he is seriously considering doing.

Sylvain L’Espérance’s name is registered for life in the sex offender registry.
