In the first quarter of this year, Spotify had 422 million monthly users worldwide. There are now 188 million people who have a paid subscription. The rest listen for free with ads.

According to Spotify, the music service has never been able to add so many users in the second quarter. Most users (32 percent) come from Europe. This is followed by North America (22 percent) and Latin America (22 percent). The rest of the world follows with 24 percent.

Spotify has 4.4 million podcasts on the platform. The service does not disclose how many of its users listen to podcasts, the company keeps it at a “double-digit” percentage. Podcasts are important to the Swedish service because they also offer advertisements.

Spotify earned 360 million euros in advertising in the past quarter, 31 percent more than last year. Total turnover increased year on year by almost a quarter to 2.9 billion euros.
