North Korea Reportedly Executes Man in Sub-Zero Temperatures, Forces Hundreds to Witness

North Korea reportedly forcing hundreds of residents to witness the execution of a man in extremely cold weather of minus 15 degrees Celsius.

Radio Free Asia reported that North Korea executed a man in front of hundreds of residents for killing a woman while trying to steal nuts from the North Korean woman.

Hundreds of people were gathered by the Kim Jong Un regime authorities to witness the execution of the 23-year-old man who killed the woman.

“On the morning of the 19th, the day of the public execution, an order was issued from the provincial social security for local residents to gather at Hyesan airfield at 2 pm,” said one resident of Ryanggang Province whose identity was withheld. RFA.

“We had to stand for two hours in temperatures of minus 15 degrees Celsius, enduring the cold wind in an empty field that was white and covered in snow,” he added.

The man was previously found guilty of killing the woman and trying to steal 10 kilograms of nuts worth IDR 92 thousand from the woman.

The defendant was then executed by a North Korean firing squad witnessed by hundreds of North Koreans.

The execution was carried out at Hyesan airport, North Korea.

The man was taken from prison to the middle of a field, then immediately shot dead by a firing squad.

“Authorities say that the young man who was shot dead committed the murder while trying to steal 10 kilograms of nuts one night at the end of last month,” said the North Korean resident.

In North Korea, 10 kilograms of nuts are priced at up to 50 thousand won or the equivalent of IDR 92 thousand. This amount can cover one family’s food needs for a week.

A total of 12 other people were also sentenced to 10 years in prison for crimes such as robbery, fraud, forgery, attempting to escape from North Korea and drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, Hyesan airport was previously the place where nine defendants were executed in August on charges of smuggling beef. Another defendant was executed in September for penicillin theft.
