Nomadland wins main prize at Venice Film Festival The news

Venice, Sept. 13, LETA – AFP. 77. The main prize of the Venice Film Festival “Golden Bear” was won on Saturday night by the American drama “Nomadland”.

The film tells the story of a woman who travels around the United States in the United States after losing her home due to the crisis.

Director Chloe Zhao and starring Francis McDormand presented the awards ceremony in a video conference from Pasadina, California.

Like Zhao and McDormand, many stars did not attend the festival this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Grand Jury Prize of the Festival was awarded to the thriller “Nuevo orden” by Mexican director Michel Franco.

The Silver Bear Award went to Japanese director Kijosi Kurosawa’s romantic television drama “Supai no cuma” (“Spiega’s Wife”).

The best actress was recognized by the British star Vanessa Curby for the portrayal in the US-Canada co-production drama “Pieces of a Woman”.

As the best actor, the Italian Pierre Francesco Favino was awarded for his portrayal in the drama “Padrenostro” (“Our Father”).

The award for best screenplay went to the Indian film The Disciple, written and directed by Caitanya Tamhane.

The special prize of the jury was won by the Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky’s drama “Dorogije tovarišči” (“Dear Members”) about the shooting of a demonstration of striking workers in Novocherkassk in 1962.

This year, the films were shown at the festival in accordance with the norms of social distance, and people had to wear masks in all places of the festival.

The opening and closing parties of the festival were canceled, and several actors and directors presented their films in video conferences.

Artists who attended the festival in person had limited contact with fans. The red carpet was fenced off from the rest of the street.

Founded in 1932, the Venice Film Festival is the world’s oldest film festival.
