Night train connection planned from Prague via Dresden to Brussels

From 2022 Dresden is to be connected to a night train connection from Prague to Brussels. This was announced by the Czech transport company Regiojet on Tuesday. According to this, the trains should leave Prague in the evening and arrive in the Belgian capital via the Saxon state capital as well as Berlin and Amsterdam in the early morning. In the opposite direction, it starts in Brussels in the early evening. Regiojet is cooperating with the Dutch start-up European Sleeper.

Seating and sleeping cars and free internet

Regiojet claims to not only address tourists with the connection, but also business travelers and people who work in EU institutions. The trains should have seating and sleeping cars. In addition, free internet is provided. The company already operates a night train connection between Prague and the eastern Slovak city of Kosice. A connection between Prague and Lviv in Ukraine is to be added in the course of the year.

First night train via Dresden since 2017

Deutsche Bahn withdrew from all night train services at the end of 2016 with reference to the lack of profitability. The Austrian Federal Railroad (ÖBB) then took over some lines. Dresden and Leipzig, however, were left out. A night train last stopped in Dresden at the end of 2017. Until then, the Euronight “Metropol” operated between Berlin and Budapest with through coaches to Vienna via Dresden.

Last year the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) announced that they would revive the connection from Prague to Zurich via Dresden and Leipzig. The trains will operate under the “Nightjet” brand from 2023.
