New Yorkers flock to the beaches due to high temperatures

Following the announcement that this weekend temperatures would rise to 90 degrees, thousands flocked to the beaches and in Orchard Beach they arrived prepared to enjoy themselves after cold months.

Diana Sapeg arrived at the beach ready to take advantage of the day: “Oh, yes! A relief and being here, enjoying the air, the environment and supporting the community is a great pleasure.”

Families flocked to the city’s beaches.

While for Ibeth Santiago, getting to cool down was her goal for the day: “We’re going to have a good time here, sunbathing. You need to get a lot of sun, I like days like this, you can go out and enjoy yourself, get into the water, a chin of refreshment, good day”.

The combination of extreme heat and high humidity can be dangerous, which is why, on days like this, authorities recommend taking the necessary care to stay cool and beat the heat.

One of the top tips is to never leave a child or pet in a car, even with the windows open, as temperatures can rise quickly and be deadly. As well as making sure pets have access to plenty of water.

Sandra Badillo also went to the sea: “It’s good, during the week I work all day, I don’t see the sun, nothing, now I spend time with my mom, we have the water car, sunblock”.

They also recommend that if someone feels weak or faints, go immediately to a cool place and drink plenty of water and if there is no improvement, call 911.

Keep in mind that, although you can come to the beach, they recommend not going into the sea because the lifeguards are not working this weekend, and the water is still quite cold at 50 degrees.
