LIER: At 23 on Monday night, the police were notified of a fire in a bus in Lier.
The bus in question then stood at Liertoppen in a northerly direction.
– Emergency services on their way to the scene, wrote the Southeast police district on Twitter.
They further stated that there should be no people on board. Photos and video from the area show that it burned heavily in the bus, and that there was thick black smoke.
Øyvind Hammervold, operations manager in the Southeast police district, confirms via Drammens Tidende that only the bus driver was on board. The male driver has not been injured as a result of the fire. No other injuries have been reported.
The fire must have started behind
At 23.31, the police inform that the fire must have been extinguished and that there are no longer open flames.
What caused the fire is still unknown at midnight.
– We were notified that it burned in the back of the bus. All the emergency services went to the place and around half past ten they could report that the fire had been extinguished and that there were no longer open flames, Hammervold says.
E18 was closed past the relevant place, and at 11.30 pm it is stated that the road will probably be closed for several hours due to the work that must be done.
Checking high voltage lines
For drivers on E18, a detour applies. Road work is underway on site, and therefore the E18 will be closed in both north and south directions after the fire.
– We are now waiting for car recovery and sweeping car. There is a lot in the roadway, and therefore we are closed pending that this is arranged, and that the fire service must keep control of the place, says operations manager Hammervold.
– And the road must be closed in both directions?
– Yes, there has been so much smoke development, and some high-voltage lines will also be checked nearby. So the status as of now is that it is one hundred percent closed.
